GRAYLING — Wellington Farm USA will mark the 250th birthday of the United States with a special walk through flag history.

This July 4th, the 60 acre living history complex near Grayling will honor the nation by displaying copies of all 28 flags that have flown over the national government. The flags will be placed along a wooded pathway at the farm, giving visitors a chance to stroll through the story of America’s past.

The idea came during a staff planning session, when it was discovered that 28 different flags have represented the country through the years. From that point, the plan was simple: create a walking trail where visitors can see each flag and learn why it changed, when it was used and what it meant to the nation.

The display will be set in a mature wooded area of the park, where established walking trails offer a quiet and fitting setting. The trails are wide enough for the park’s people mover, so elderly and handicapped visitors will also be able to take part.

A written description of each flag will be provided to visitors. The information will explain the reason for each change and the time period when that flag served as the official emblem of the country.

Rides for elderly and handicapped visitors will be offered on an established schedule. Visitors who need that service should call ahead to make a reservation. The number to call is 989 348 5187. If calling when the park is not open, leave a number and someone will return the call.

Wellington Farm is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Wellington Farm USA is located on South Military Road between 4 Mile Road and 5 Mile Road near Grayling. It is near exit 251 of I-75 or exit 206 of US 127.

Wellington Farm USA is owned and operated by Wellington Farm Park, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The farm depicts life in a rural, mid-western farming community during the Great Depression.

At Wellington, it is always 1932.
