New members welcome to join ‘Writing in the Pines’ December 1 meeting

REGION – “Writing in the Pines” meets monthly to share, learn, and encourage one another in individual writing pursuits. The group meets monthly at locations around Crawford, Montmorency and Otsego counties. Participants are invited to share writings they are working on, including poetry, short stories, fiction/nonfiction, song lyrics and more, and can give and receive valuable feedback in a welcoming setting.

Shelby Bauer of Johannesburg and her mother, Donna Pontius, of Mio, founded the group to encourage themselves and others to pursue writing as a creative outlet. “We all get busy and set our projects aside sometimes,” Bauer said. “It’s nice to have a nudge from others who want to help you create and succeed.”

Bauer and Pontius, both longtime writers, participated in a similar group in their hometown of Grand Ledge and are relatively new to northern Michigan.

Monthly meetings last about two hours and are held in rotation at different locations in the area. The next meeting is scheduled for Dec 1 at Crawford County Library, 201 Plum St, Grayling.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to email Bauer at write.pines@gmail.com
