March 12
Otsego County — county organization milestone. Newberry’s county chronology dates Otsego County’s full organization to March 12, 1875. Local Otsego historical sources also tie March 12 to the county’s early seat-of-government story, noting Otsego Lake Village as the county seat in that formative period.
Otsego County — county seat/government start noted again on March 12, 1879. An Otsego County historical timeline also says that on March 12, 1879, Otsego Lake became the first seat for Otsego County and county officers were elected. That gives March 12 special importance in Otsego’s local-government history, even though county-organization sources emphasize 1875.
Oscoda and Iosco counties — boundary/judicial change. On March 12, 1869, Oscoda County was detached from Iosco County and attached to Alcona County for administrative purposes. That makes March 12 a meaningful date in both Oscoda and Iosco county history.
Arenac County — Standish/Au Gres local timeline entries. The Arenac County Historical Society timeline records that on March 12, 1930, Standish lost to East Tawas in a tournament game, and on March 12, 1952, the Au Gres Theatre was sold by George O’Brien to John Booth. These are smaller but clearly dated local-history items.
March 14
Crawford County — Grayling winter sports growth documented. A March 14, 1941 newspaper account highlighted the rapid growth of the Grayling Winter Sports Park and reported plans for a 95-foot professional ski jump for the 1942 season. That makes March 14 a good documented date for Crawford County’s long skiing and outdoor-recreation history.
March 18
Crawford, Roscommon, Montmorency, Iosco, Oscoda, and Otsego counties — major legislative attachment change. On March 18, 1865, these northern counties were detached from Mackinac County and attached to Cheboygan County for judicial and municipal purposes. For your project, this is one of the biggest shared regional-history dates in the March 12–18 window.
Otsego County / Gaylord — village incorporation. On March 18, 1881, the Village of Gaylord was incorporated, and the village council held its first meeting. That is a major Otsego County civic milestone.
Arenac County — local sports honor. The Arenac County Historical Society timeline records that on March 18, 1952, Ollie Porter of the Golden Arrows was named to the Detroit Times Class C all-state basketball team.
Roscommon County — local waterway regulation milestone. Michigan’s watercraft-control history for Roscommon County shows March 18, 1976 as the effective date for certain slow/no-wake controls affecting channels connected to Lake St. Helen and part of the Muskegon River. It is a narrower item than county-government history, but it is a real dated Roscommon milestone within your requested window.
