Bud Sprague, 83, of Houghton Lake

Robert Arthur “Bud” Sprague, 83, of  Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday July 7, 2026 at King Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Houghton Lake.

Bud was born on October 21, 1942 in Saginaw, Michigan to Floyd and Lorraine (Savage) Sprague. He grew up in the Saginaw area, graduating from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School.  Bud went on to receive his Associates Degree in Business Management from Mott Community College. He served in the Army from 1961 to 1964, spending almost two years stationed in Germany. Bud worked as a Machinist and later as the editor of the Plant 81 newspaper, The Concept, for General Motors. After retiring, Robert moved from Corunna to Florida where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for several Florida Resorts.  He moved from Florida to Houghton Lake sixteen years ago.  Bud loved cruising with  his Harley while in Florida and in Houghton Lake, putting over 70,000 miles on his bike.  He had many talents, as a professional photographer, Master Leather Crafter, writing Calligraphy, and doing wood working, making canes and walking sticks for many people.  Bud was a musician playing several instruments especially the guitar.  You could find him at Marilyn’s Music Shop in Houghton Lake whenever the group gathered for a jam session..

Surviving Mr. Sprague are his two sons, Brian A. (Leslie) Sprague of Houghton Lake and  Shon Sprague of Houghton Lake; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Don (Mary) Sprague of Freeland; several nieces and nephews.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Laurie and Brandi; and two brothers, Gary and Rick. 

A Family Celebration of Life Service will be held for Robert Arthur Sprague. Memorial contributions in memory of Robert are asked to be directed to Care Team Hospice.
