REGION– If you spot a wild turkey hen with her poults (baby turkeys) this summer, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources wants your help. Residents are encouraged to report turkey sightings from July 1 through Aug. 31 as part of the annual Wild Turkey Brood Survey.

The community science project helps biologists monitor turkey reproduction, poult survival, and the overall health of Michigan’s turkey population. Since the survey began in 2023, volunteers have submitted more than 17,000 observations.

Reporting a sighting takes just a few minutes and can be done online at Michigan.gov/Turkey.

Every observation helps wildlife experts better understand and protect Michigan’s thriving wild turkey population.
