GRAYLING — Crawford County residents are invited to take part in Crawford County Clean Out Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 13, at the Crawford County Building parking lot, located at 200 W. Michigan Ave., Grayling.

The event is free to Crawford County residents and gives people a safe and simple way to get rid of unwanted household items, hazardous waste, electronics, scrap tires and sensitive documents.

Hazardous waste items that will be accepted include items labeled toxic, flammable, corrosive or reactive. Accepted materials include motor oil, fluids, batteries, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, oil-based paints, thinners, solvents, aerosols, pool chemicals and unknown liquids or chemicals. Residents are asked to keep items in their original containers if possible for identification.

Electronics, also known as e-waste, will also be accepted. Items include computers, monitors, printers, TVs and small appliances. A $10 donation is suggested to recycle TVs.

Scrap tire recycling also will be available for vehicle tires. Tires must be off rim only.

Document shredding will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon. Residents may bring old tax forms, bank statements and sensitive paperwork. Suggested donations are $10 for a 13-gallon-size bag or box and $15 for a 40-gallon-size bag or box. Document shredding is sponsored by North Central Area Credit Union, and donations will support the Crawford County Commission on Aging.

General household waste also will be accepted. A general waste dumpster will be available, but space is limited. Items will no longer be accepted once the dumpster reaches capacity. Overflow and side-dumping are not permitted.

The event is supported by North Central Area Credit Union, the City of Grayling, Northeast Michigan Council of Governments, EGLE, GFL and Crawford County.
