Ray Banbury, 75, of Houghton Lake

Ray T. Banbury, age 75, of Houghton Lake, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, in Traverse City.

Ray was born on July 17, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, to Arthur and Shirley (Hobbs) Banbury. He was a retired plumber who worked at Wayne State University for over 40 years. Ray was married on April 11, 1999, in Chesterfield, Michigan, to Linda Obarzanek. The couple moved to Houghton Lake permanently in 2020. Ray was a member of the Houghton Lake Moose, the Plumber’s Union, and the Detroit Area Steelheaders, where he served as past President. He enjoyed fishing, collecting watches, photography, and camping. 

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Linda Banbury, step-son, Scott Obarzanek, and step-daughter, Lindsey Obarzanek,  brothers, Robert (Mary) Banbury, and Lee Banbury, nephew, Brian (Rebecca), and nieces, Kimberly (Casey) and Barbara (Hugo), and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Mary Banbury.  

Per Ray’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
