CRAWFORD COUNTY- Many of you have reached out asking how you can help this November when SNAP benefits are paused due to the government shutdown. I truly appreciate your concern and support.
The USDA has directed MDHHS to temporarily suspend SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits for the month of November. SNAP—also known as food stamps or Bridge Card benefits—provides essential food assistance to many local families and seniors. Nearly 13% of Michigan households rely on SNAP, receiving an average of $335 per month in 2024. Without this support, our Help Center expects to see a sharp rise in the number of clients needing food.
How You Can Help:
- Make a monetary donation—we can purchase food at reduced cost from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
- Host a food drive or fundraiser at your business.
- Donate non-perishable food or personal/household items.
- Take advantage of buy one, get one offers and donate the extra item.
- Donate at checkout this week at Family Fare.
- Spread the word—encourage neighbors or friends in need to visit us.
