Beaverton Township crash injures Amish woman

BEAVERTON – An Amish woman was injured when the buggy she was riding in was hit by a semi-truck Aug. 26.

According to a statement from the Gladwin County Sheriff Department, at about 7:40 a.m., deputies responded to a personal-injury crash on Beaverton Road, west of South Bard Road in Beaverton Township.

Investigators determined the buggy was occupied by a 61-year-old Amish woman and a 17-year-old Amish male.

The buggy, which was towing another unoccupied buggy, was traveling eastbound on Beaverton Road when it was struck from behind by a 2018 International semi-truck, also traveling eastbound. The truck was driven by a 45-year-old man from Hersey, Michigan.

The Amish woman was taken to MyMichigan Medical Center Gladwin with non-life-threatening injuries. The Amish male and the truck driver were not injured.

The semi-truck driver was issued a traffic citation, which will be handled in Gladwin County 80th District Court.

The Gladwin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Beaverton Fire and Rescue and MyMichigan Ambulance Service.
