Road work to begin in Escanaba

ESCANABA – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin a $1.4 million resurfacing project on Monday, June 9, along a two-mile stretch of US-2/US-41/M-35 in Delta County.

The work will take place between North 20th Street and 18.3 Lane and will include asphalt cold milling and resurfacing, shoulder improvements, and new pavement markings. To reduce traffic disruptions, milling and paving operations will occur at night.

Motorists should expect single-lane closures and traffic shifts throughout the project. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-August 2025. Based on economic modeling, the investment is estimated to directly and indirectly support 13 jobs.

“This construction season, we’re continuing to move dirt and fix the damn roads to keep Michigan families safe and our economy growing,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “By the end of the season, we’ll have repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges—creating thousands of good-paying local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. Let’s keep the momentum going with a bipartisan local road funding plan.”

This project will extend the lifespan of the roadway and improve safety for all motorists. The communities closest to the project area include Escanaba and Wells.
