GAYLORD– The Michigan State Police Gaylord Post proudly announces the promotion of Trooper William Brown to the rank of sergeant.
Originally from Boyne City, Sgt. Brown is a Boyne City High School graduate and earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Northern Michigan University in 2010. He began his law enforcement career as a marine patrol deputy with the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Michigan State Police in 2012 as part of the 124th Trooper Recruit School.
Sgt. Brown was first assigned to the Alpena Post, later serving as the resident trooper in Alcona County for three years. In 2018, he transferred to the Gaylord Post, where he became the resident trooper for Antrim County.
Since 2015, Brown has served as a field training officer, mentoring more than 17 new troopers. He has been a member of the MSP Pistol Team since 2016. His exemplary service has earned him the MSP Professional Excellence Award for solving a complex robbery case and the Lifesaving Award for rendering aid to a driver who suffered a heart attack and crashed.
As a sergeant, Brown will supervise troopers and handle various administrative duties at the Gaylord Post.
