M-65 paving project to start

HALE – Roadwork is slated to begin in Iosco County May 27.

According to a statement from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $900,020 to resurface 3.5 miles of M-65 in Iosco County, stretching from just north of Pine Acres Road to just south of Kings Corner Road.

The project will include a combination of pavement milling, asphalt paving, crack treatment, chip sealing, and fog sealing.

“Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy—helping Michiganders get to work, drop their kids off at school, and run errands safely,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired, or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying local jobs without raising taxes.”

The project is expected to be completed by July 16. During construction, traffic will be limited to single-lane closures with traffic regulators present during daylight hours.

According to economic modeling, this investment is expected to support eight direct and indirect jobs. In addition to providing a smoother driving surface, the project will enhance safety with new pavement markings and extend the roadway’s service life.
