Iosco County prisoner dies after found ‘unresponsive’ in cell

EAST TAWAS – A prisoner at the Iosco County Jail died after being found unresponsive in his cell.

According to a statement from Iosco County Sheriff Scott Frank, on Dec. 26, corrections officers found an unresponsive inmate in his cell at 8:08 a.m.

Assistance was requested and Iosco County EMS dispatched. Corrections officers immediately began life saving measures with CPR and with the use of an AED.

Iosco County deputies immediately responded and assisted along with an officer from the Tawas City Police Department. Iosco County EMS responded to the scene at 8:19 a.m. and transferred the inmate to MyMichigan Medical Center of Tawas.

The inmate, Arista Glen Hunt, a 43-year-old resident of Saginaw, MI, formerly of Tawas City, was ultimately pronounced deceased.

Due to the circumstances the Iosco County Sheriff’s Office has requested a full investigation into the incident to be completed by the Tawas City Police Department and the Iosco County Medical Examiner.

This is an active and ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.
