Michael Louis Smith, age 75, of Roscommon, died on Saturday, August 20, 2022, in Traverse City, Michigan in the presence and comfort of his family.
Mike was born July 1, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of George and Elizabeth (Bachand) Smith.
Mike married Helen McCabe on August 6, 1993, Wyandotte, Michigan.
Mike had enjoyed teaching Tang Soo Do for over forty years and was very passionate about it. He was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to train in China. He also taught Tai Chi for over ten years. Mike’s hobby was boating and even spent some time teaching classes. He truly enjoyed working with his hands. He took interest in working with wood, on cars, and meticulously tending to his lawn. The family will always remember most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Mike will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Helen; children: Jennifer (Jay Weisenbach) Herceg; Ryan Tubbs; Rachel (Scott) Florschuetz; grandchildren: Ethan, Jase, Abby and Scott; brothers: Mitch and George (Roberta) Smith; sisters: Lynn (Janos) Papp and Kathy Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helene; and sister-in-law, Jackie.
Mike’s family has chosen to remember him privately at this time.
