Ray ‘Pappy’ Akers of Roscommon

Ray ‘Pappy’ Akers, 87, of Roscommon passed away July 7, 2017 at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital.

He was born at Fort Blackmore, Virginia on May 29, 1930 to Stonewall Cleveland and Martha Malinda (Lane) Akers. He married Lois Joann Tressler April 17, 1948 at Connellsville, Pennsylvania.

Ray resided in Lincoln Park prior to moving to Roscommon in 1988. He was employed 36 years by Ford Rouge Plant, retiring in 1988 as a skilled trade supervisor.

Mr. Akers enjoyed hunting and watching the wildlife in his yard.

Surviving are eight children, William (Gayle) Akers of Minnesota, Larry (Shannon) Akers of Lincoln Park, Nancy (James III) Price of Taylor, Barry (Tracy) Akers of Lincoln Park, Dennis (Tonja) Akers of Surfiside Beach, South Carolina, Jeffrey (Karen) Akers of Wyandotte, Connie (Donald) Nash of Lincoln Park and Rhonda Fournier of Allen Park; 22 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Ivory Akers and sister, Glenrose (Charlie) Danner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; son, Danny Keith; two brothers, Ellwood and Bob Akers; two sisters, Ruby Cook and Ruth Hall and a son-in-law, Paul Fournier.

Funeral services will be at Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon today (July 12) at 2 p.m. with Rev. Father Bernard Tyler officiating. Burial will be at Pioneer Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon.
