Grayling youth grapplers make nations

GRAYLING – Danny Bonamie, Thomas May, Brodie Gross, and Zachary Duncan earned spots on the Michigan National Youth Wrestling Team.

Bonamie & Gross the 10 Under Dual team, Duncan & May the 14 Under Dual team. Both teams placed 8th in tournaments located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Mat Mayhem had over 2,000 wrestlers from around the country with age brackets from 8-under through college.

Assistant Coach Dan Bonamie said in a note the kids had a blast.

‘They started watching the girl and boys college finals. They were greeted with a very warm reception where they ran onto the mats through the college wrestlers, slapping high fives as the Coliseum rocked with music pumping up the youth for their first matches. Our Girls wrestlers were impressed with the number of Collegiate girl wrestlers ‘whooping’ it up for them as they made their way into the event.’

Bonamie said the kids worked hard preparing for the event.

‘Coach Duncan and I were extremely proud of their efforts. These boys and girls gave everything taking away a great life experience, wrestling knowledge, and peak at what the top wrestlers in the country are doing.

“(We) got to see some great wrestling. We both took plenty of notes to use in our practices from what we seen.”
