< >OSCOMMON – Roscommon High School Principal MJ Ewald announced that senior Abigail Smith was named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Corporation and will be awarded for her scholastic talent

< >About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are recognized for their academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

< >Ewald said Smith is a fantastic young lady who challenges herself academically and is a leader by example in the high school.

< >“I’m proud of her involvement in our National Honor Society chapter and her work within the community,” Ewald said.

< >“Abby is more than willing to donate her time and her talents to our school and to our students.”

< >As a tutor, Smith works with both students and staff to ensure that students are getting the best help that they can, said Ewald.

< >“She helped to address the specific areas of concern for each student and willingly changed her availability for tutoring sessions to match theirs,” the principal added.

< >Ewald said he is so pleased with Smith.

< >“Her high achievement score is no accident. Abby’s willingness to push herself academically–she’s taking four advanced placement classes and anatomy and physiology–and her willingness to work with others is truly outstanding.”
