Hale Middle School track

By Larkin Spaw, student

Did you know that the middle school track coach didn’t have a track team during his sophomore-senior year? One of the reasons he became a track coach was because his daughter wanted to run track, but there was no team. In 2005, Steve Bradley’s daughter wanted to run track. He asked the school about starting one and said that he’ll be the coach for it, and 18 years later he’s still a coach. His core values as a coach is no drama, work together as a team, and do your best. This season, his expectations are to win the league championship and some ideal characteristics for a runner mentally to keep pushing is to think, “No one is going to beat me!” and to keep pushing through the pain. All the track events are valuable. He said, “Track is an individual sport and a team sport because you have to work to win the events individually but contribute as a team.” One of the hardest parts of him being a coach is keeping them motivated and focused.  The middle school track team this year is full of runners excited to get the season rolling.  Their first meet is Apr. 24 at Alcona High School.
