Lady Vikings take two

LAKE CITY — Grayling’s girls softball team swept a non-conferencce doubleheader from Lake City, 13-1 and 8-7 on the road Wednesday afternoon.

The first game ended after six innings becauses of the mercy rule (10-run lead), with Katelyn Kanary spinning a no-hit gem for the Vikings.

Kanary issued just three walks and struck out six batters over the six innings.

Jessica Campbell was the leading hitter for the Vikings, going 2-for-2 with a double. Kanary helped her cause, driving in three runs.

Lexi D’Amour contributed a pair of RBI, and Mandy Andrews knocked out a double and two RBI as well.

The Vikings played error-free ball in the field on defense.

Kanary pitched the last two innings of the nightcap to pick up the win in relief and had three strike outs. Campbell started the game and went five innings, allowing 10 hits and striking out two.

It was a back-and-forth contest, with the game tied at 7-7 going into the seventh inning.

Lexi D’Amour paced the Vikings at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a RBI. Her sister Cali D’Amour and a hit, three walks and drove in a run while Lauren Hartman contributed two RBI.

“The girls were extremely patient at the plate,” said Grayling head coach Doug Paulus. “Lake City gave up 21 walks, and hit 11 batters.”

Grayling moved its record to 8-9-1 on the season.
