Middle school girls wrap up season

GRAYLING – The Grayling Middle School girls basketball team wrapped up its season with a series of wins against regional opponents.

Coach Sarah Frisbie said the final two games of the season were a great opportunity for the team to show how well they can play team basketball, both offensively and defensively.
‘When they are all playing together with intensity, they are so much fun to watch. This group of girls worked hard night in and night out always playing with tons of heart. I look forward to seeing what they are able to accomplish in the years to come,’ Frisbie added.

Grayling 40,
Heston Academy 4
The Vikings wrapped up the season Feb. 21 with a 40-4 win over the Charlton Heston Academy.
Lacey Young 10 points, 1 assist, and 1 rebound; Jasmine Youngblood – 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot; Audrey Duba – 6 points, 1 assist, and 3 rebounds; Alaina Anderson – 6 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal; Ella Longendyke – 2 points, 2 assists, and 4 rebounds; Audrey Bentz – 2 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot; Robin Long – 2 points, 1 assist, and 4 rebounds; Kenzie Castle – 2 points and 1 steal; and Shaylinn Tackett – 2 points and 2 rebounds.

Grayling 44,
Heston Academy 0
On Feb 16 Grayling defeated the Heston Academy 44-0.

Stats for the game:

Kenzie Castle – 10 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals; Lacey Young 10 points – 1 assist, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals; Jasmine Youngblood – 8 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, and 4 steals; Ella Longendyke – 4 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals; Audrey Bentz – 4 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 blocked shot; Audrey Duba – 2 points, 1 rebound, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot; Shaylinn Tackett – 2 points, 1 assist, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals; Robin Long – 2 points, 1 assist, 6 rebounds, and 1 steal; and Ally Laine – 2 points, 1 assist, and 6 rebounds.

Traverse City St. Elizabeth 25,
Grayling 23

On Feb 14 the Vikings dropped a tight game to Traverse City St. Elizabeth, 25-23.
Coach Frisbie said ‘This was another close loss where our girls played great, but just came up a little short on the score board. We out rebounded and out hustled T.C. on the night, but they got a few lucky shots to fall and we were unable to convert on a few key shots’.

Stats for the night included:

Kenzie Castle – 12 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals; Audrey Bentz – 4 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal; Jasmine Youngblood – 3 points, 15 rebounds, and 1 steal; Lacey Young – 2 points and 1 rebound; Ella Longendyke – 2 points, 3 rebounds and 1 blocked shot; Alaina Anderson – 1 assist, 4 rebounds and 1 steal; Sage Jones – 1 assist and 2 rebounds; Ally Laine – 2 rebounds; Robin Long – 1 rebound; and Audrey Duba – 1 rebound.

Elk Rapids 40,
Grayling 17
On Feb 12 the Vikings fell to Elk Rapids Cherryland Middle School 40-17.

Stats for the evening included:

Audrey Bentz – 6 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal; Ally Laine – 4 points and 2 rebounds; Jasmine Youngblood – 3 points, 1 assist, and 8 rebounds; Kenzie Castle – 2 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal; Shaylinn Tackett – 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal; Alaina Anderson – 3 rebounds and 2 steals; Lacey Young – 2 rebounds; Ella Longendyke – 2 rebounds; and Robin Long and Sage Jones each pulled down one rebound.

The team finished with a 4-7 record.
