ROSCOMMON COUNTY – The Houghton Lake Area Tourism Bureau will be having a “Big Ice Hole” Catch Contest this winter, a FREE, family-friendly event for everyone!
The contest begins on January 1 and ends March 15. Fish entries can be from Houghton Lake, Higgins Lake, or Lake St. Helen (Roscommon County).
The biggest fish (across all lakes/bait shops) in each category including Pike, Walleye, Perch, Rainbow Trout, Bluegill, Crappie, Lake Trout wins a T-shirt and special award.
The overall winner (fish with the most inches over Michigan Master Angler size, regardless of species or lake) will win a Fisherman’s Digest live show taping and a custom fishing rod.
Bring your fish to one of these bait shops for measurement, verification, and a photo:
- Lyman’s on the Lake – Houghton Lake
- The Sports Barn – Higgins Lake
- The Minnow Bucket (Exit 222) – Lake St. Helen
