REGION– Hunters Feeding Michigan, a DNR program that connects hunters, meat processors, and food banks, processed 140,000 pounds of donated venison in fiscal year 2025 — a new record. That’s over 560,000 servings of protein-rich meals for those in need across the state.

The venison is distributed through the Food Bank Council of Michigan and Feeding America network, reaching local pantries and shelters like Grace Centers of Hope, where it’s served in meals such as venison burritos.

Since its launch in 2007, the program has delivered more than 3 million servings.

“More hunters are choosing to give back, and the impact keeps growing,” said Joe Presgrove, program specialist.

Hunters can donate their deer at participating processors. Anyone can support the program by contributing funds during license purchases — just $3 can provide a meal for four.
