NORTHERN MICHIGAN – Our area will soon have 1,275 new trees! Thanks to DTE Energy Foundation Tree Planting Grants, 29 Michigan towns will get trees for their streets, parks, and other spots.
The money for these trees, a total of $102,545, comes from a long-time teamwork between the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, DTE Energy Foundation, and ReLeaf Michigan. These trees will be planted either this fall or the upcoming spring.
Near Roscommon, these places will get the tree grants:
- Richfield Township, Roscommon County: $4,000
- City of Iron Mountain, Dickinson County: $4,000
- Grand Traverse Conservation Area, Grand Traverse County: $4,000
- Mackinaw Area Historical Group, Cheboygan and Emmet counties: $425
Kevin Sayers from DNR said trees make towns lovely and healthy. The tree program aims to plant the right trees in good spots. This helps the environment, beautifies places, and keeps trees safe from power lines and equipment. DTE Foundation’s Rodney Cole is happy about the program and looks forward to seeing towns enjoy the new trees.
