Outdoors ORV and firearm reminders for this hunting season

ORV and firearm reminders for this hunting season

REGION – Local riding areas may be closed to ORVs and snowmobiles during firearm hunting deer season, Nov. 15-30.

During these two weeks, ORVs and snowmobiles may not be operated between the hours of 7-11 a.m. and 2-5 p.m. on any area open to public hunting. This also promotes “quiet hours” for wildlife.

Snowmobile season on state-managed trails begins Dec. 1. However, if sufficient available snow is available, riders in areas open to public hunting need to observe the quiet hours.

If transferring firearms on ORVs or snowmobiles, rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders and other firearms must be unloaded in both the barrel and magazine. They must also be enclosed in a case or equipped with and made inoperative by a manufactured, key-locked, trigger-housing mechanism.

Crossbows, slingshots, bows and arrows must be unloaded and uncocked, enclosed in a case or carried in the trunk of a vehicle while that vehicle is operated on public land or on a highway, road, or street.
