Brian Keith Cornell passed away suddenly at his home in Houghton Lake on June 27th, 2026. Brian was born on June 9th, 1966 at Grayling Mercy Hospital , the youngest of five siblings, to Richard and Jean Cornell
Brian graduated from Houghton Lake High School and then attended some classes at Mid Michigan Community College. Brian had several jobs over his lifetime. He worked at the former Fuelgas Propane Co. and at Consumers Power delivering vehicles and equipment to needed locations. He later on became a cook, a job that he loved, and worked at the former Coyle’s Restaurant and the former Big Boy Restaurant in Houghton Lake. His love for cooking never ended as he enjoyed watching cooking shows for new recipes and ideas. Everyday he would head out early to shop at several stores for the freshest ingredients for the meals that he would prepare for the day. He enjoyed his aquarium and raising fish and listening to his music on his stereo equipment which he loved to tinker with. Brian was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and never missed watching a game.
Brian’s biggest joy in life were family gatherings. He loved it when all of his family were able to get together and share a meal and tell all of the same old stories he’d heard a hundred times before about growing up together. Brian’s greatest accomplishment in this world was that as a caregiver and companion for his mother who survives him. He made sure she ate well, got her to her appointments and doctors, provided much of her care but most importantly he provided love and companionship for his mom.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard Cornell.
Brian will be deeply missed by his mother Jean, and his 4 siblings . Bob(Deb) Cornell, Dave (Sue) Cornell, Doug(Marcia) Cornell and Beth(Rob) MacGregor.
Funeral services for Brian Keith Cornell will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday July 10, 2026 from the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church with Rev Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am. Memorioal Contributions in Brian memory are asked to be directed to the Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church.
