Michaeline Koppy-Austin, age 76, of Houghton Lake, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at home.
Michaeline was born on June 9, 1950, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Richard and Peggy (Dziduch) Koppy. She graduated from Rosary High School, and later attended Michigan State University, earning her Doctorate degree in medicine. Michaeline was married on September 24, 1976, in Detroit, to James Patrick Austin. The couple moved to Roscommon County in 1977. Michaeline worked in private practice in Roscommon County and finished her career at Central Michigan University, where she was a doctor on campus, retiring in 2005. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, sailing, and spending time with her grandsons.
Michaeline is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, James “Pat” Austin; daughter, Shana (Larry) Maitland; grandchildren, James Ashley Hancock, and Jeremiah Maitland; and brother, Jeff (Christine) Koppy. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Cathedral of Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit, Michigan, on June 25 at 11 am. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 am at the church. Luncheon to immediately follow. Additionally, a Celebration of Life Dinner will be held on Saturday, July 11, at Lakeside Inn and Conference Center in Houghton Lake from 2-6 pm.
