Joseph (Joey) Michael Shugart, age 62, of Oscoda, Michigan, passed away surrounded by family on June 6, 2026.

Born on September 5, 1963, in Tawas, Michigan, Joey was the beloved son of Joseph R. Shugart and Patricia L. Shugart. He was known for his adventurous heart, infectious love of music, and zest for life. Whether he was chasing a new experience, sharing a laugh with friends, or enjoying time with family, Joey had a way of bringing energy, warmth, and joy to those around him. He lived life on his own terms and inspired others to embrace each day with the same enthusiasm and spirit.

Joey is survived by his loving parents, Joe and Pat Shugart; his daughters, Sarah Shugart and Halee Shugart; his cherished grandchildren, Malakai McGarry and Memphis Shugart; his sisters, Kimberly Shugart and her husband, Bob, and Kari Lynn Scamazzo and her husband, Dan; and his nieces and nephews, Stephanie Janis Noble, Shayne Janis, and Megan Gagne, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. He leaves behind a family who will forever treasure the memories, laughter, and love they shared with him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Joseph Christopher Wyatt Shugart, whom he carried in his heart always.

Throughout his life, Joey worked in assembly and as a painter. Beyond his work, he found happiness in riding bicycles and motorcycles, participating in bicycle motocross, playing and listening to music, tossing a frisbee, and creating gourmet meals with his daughters. Some of his greatest joys came from simply being with the people he loved—sharing stories, laughter, and unforgettable moments with family and friends. As a lifelong resident of Oscoda, Joey was a familiar and friendly presence around town, often seen riding his bike and greeting others with the free-spirited nature that made him so memorable.

Joey will be remembered not only for his adventurous spirit, but also for his kind heart, his deep love for family, his unwavering loyalty to friends, and the genuine connections he built throughout his life. He touched many lives with his warmth, humor, and authenticity, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 noon at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda.
