Charles Wesley Carey
Age 86, of Oscoda, MI, formerly of Beaver Island, MI passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 8, 1940 in Chicago, IL to the late John and Charlotte (Olson) Carey. Charles attended Michigan State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree. He continued his studies at the University of Michigan, completing his graduate program in Dentistry. Charles proudly served as a Dentist in the United States Army from 1966-1969. He went on to build his career as a respected Orthodontist, dedicating 37 years to caring for his patients and serving the community. Outside of his professional life, Charles found joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, flying airplanes, riding ATVs and spending time on his tractor. Whether in the woods, on the water or in the air, Charles was most at peace surrounded by nature. In 1998, he married Teresa Ann Gibbs in Reno, NV and together, they have enjoyed 28 years of marriage and friendship. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; children, Cheryl (Pete) Anderson of Houston, TX, Jason (Kristin) Tanner of Flushing, MI, Jodi (Simon) Morecroft of Welwyn, UK and Matthew Carey of Taos, NM; grandchildren, Brian Carey, Trey Forrester, Taylor Sulistio, Chloe Carey, Zoey Carey, Scarlet Tanner, Ryker Tanner, River Tanner, Johnathan Anderson and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Carey; son, John Carey; brothers, Richard and Paul Carey and in-laws, Herb and Martha Gibbs. A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Grace Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Oscoda, MI with Pastor Mike Viera officiating.
