Joe Connolly, 78, formerly of Roscommon

Joseph “Joe” Francis Connolly, 78, formerly of Roscommon, Michigan, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Maple Ridge Living Center of Lake City, Michigan.

Joe was born on December 10,1946, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Vincent G. and Elizabeth (White) Connolly. He was one of five children.

Joe was united in marriage on September 7, 1979, to Cathy M. Haywood in Howell, Michigan. They were married for 42 years prior to her death on March 21, 2022.

Joe proudly served in the United States Air Force. He retired from the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources. He loved woodworking and being in nature.

Joe and Cathy passionately advocated for all fur babies. Together they wrote a book, “If I Should Die Before My Dog – – “. They were such strong advocates that they arranged for the book royalties to be donated to an animal shelter.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Cathy; parents, Vincent and Elizabeth; sisters, Peggy Ann Connolly and Patricia Griffiths; and brother, Vincent Connolly; parents-in-law, Keith and Phyllis (Bitten) Haywood; and sister-in-law, Terri Harrington.

He is survived by his sister, Joan Cecci; brother-in-law, Keith Eric Haywood; sister-in-law, Cindy Haywood; niece, Kari L. Kramm; great-niece, Miranda Bentley; and great-nephews, Brandon Bentley and Bradley Kramm.

In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.

Much appreciation and gratitude to the staff at Maple Ridge of Lake City for their compassionate care and adopting “Joe Joe” as if he were their own family. Also, to Heartland Hospice for aiding in his care.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
