A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, for Kyle Thomas Akin, 29, Houghton Lake, who died Nov. 5, 2023, following an automobile accident.
The service will be held at 4 p.m. at Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 3 p.m.
Born July 24, 1994, in Cadillac, he was the son of Justin and Shannon (Eckstorm) Akin.
He was a 2012 graduate of Houghton Lake High School, where he was a member of both the football and basketball teams. Following graduation, he moved to Wyoming, MI, where he worked for Gem Plastics. In 2022, he returned to Houghton Lake, where he worked at Weyerhaeuser in Grayling.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, boating and entertaining his friends and family. He enjoyed working on vehicles with his dad, uncles and cousins. He was a member of the Grayling Moose Lodge and the Trout Lake Jeep Club.
In addition to his parents, Justin and Shannon, he is survived by his sister, Callee (Joseph Berglund) Akin of Iron Mountain; paternal grandmother, Freda Akin of Houghton Lake; uncles, Scott Eckstorm of Houghton Lake, Steve (Nora) Eckstorm of Prudenville, Thomas Akin II of Houghton Lake, Lee (Nannette) Akin of Houghton Lake, Michael Akin of Houghton Lake, and Jeremy (Amber) Akin of Roscommon; aunts, Kelly (Kelby) Ruckle of Whittemore, Stacy (Chip) Stead of Flushing and Shari (Brad) Deyman of Jenison; great-uncle, Jerry Akin of Colorado; cousins, Danny and Nicole Stead, Denny Miller, Melissa (Eckstorm) Gomez, Steven, Stephanie, Scott and Colt Eckstorm, Nate and Brady Deyman, Taylar (Akin) Sides, Alyssa (Akin) Hill, Hailee (Akin) Roeske, Ethan Akin, Nolan Akin, Brody Ruckle, Dylan and Dallas Akin and Ethan Horonzy; as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents; Clarence “Cal” and Linda Eckstorm; and paternal grandfather, Thomas Akin.
