James “Tip” Alvin Larson of Oscoda Michigan, age 89, died peacefully Sunday, September 24th, 2023 in his home surrounded by loved ones. The husband of Mary Larson of 65 years, and long standing staple in the Oscoda community, Tip leaves behind a lasting legacy that will be gravely missed.
Services will be held at the family residence located at 324 West Mill St. Oscoda, Michigan 48750 at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 28th 2023. Cremation has taken place.
Tip was born in Oscoda, Michigan on February 19th in 1935 and spent most of his life between the town of Oscoda and the city of Flint. Graduating from Oscoda High School in 1953, Tip went on to serve in the United States Air Force for 4 years. It was love that brought Tip back to Michigan after his tour in the Air Force when he returned to Flint to start his career at General Motors as an electrician and marry the love of his life, Mary Larson.
Tip encompassed the spirit of a woodsman throughout the entirety of his long, fruitful life. At the age of 16 years old, he participated in his first of many canoe races. As the 1st secretary of canoe race association, Tip competed in the Au Sable River Canoe Marathon’s 4th ever race with local legend Jerry Curly. A real master of his craft, Tip would spend his life hunting, fishing, and canoeing the forests and rivers up until his last year.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Larson, daughters Juliann Auger, Karen Johnston, Cherri Crites, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Beatrice Larson, his brothers Jack and Arley, and sister Barbera, and son Gregory Scott.
