Jim Mayville, 61, formerly of Oscoda

It’s with sad hearts that we announce the passing of James P. Mayville, 61, formally of Oscoda, MI, into the arms of his savior.

James passed away in Greer, SC on April 23, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born in Detroit, MI on February 19, 1962 and relocated to Oscoda in 1978, where he met his wife Dee in their sophomore year at Oscoda Area High. They were later married in 1982 and blessed with 45 years together.

James was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandpa and papa, who cherished his family deeply. James had a vibrant personality and was known for his sense of humor, love and pride. He was a strong and courageous man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, camping and 4-wheeling. James found solace in being outdoors and attending his church. He served in the U.S. Air Force from March 03, 1983 through March 31, 2003, protecting our country with dedication and honor, inspiring his son to follow in his footsteps where he now serves as a Captain in the U.S, Air Force. James was a hard worker and dedicated himself to his military service and family.

James will be deeply missed by his wife Dee (Peacock) Mayville, his children Angela Mayville-Rapetti and family, Bryan Mayville and family, his mother Joyce Mayville and his 7 other brothers and sisters and their families.

A memorial service to celebrate James’ life will be held on August 19, 2023, with a visiting hour from 1:00 – 2:00 PM and a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda, MI. Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects. James will always be remembered as a funny, loving and proud man, who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. His memories will forever be cherished by all of us who knew and loved him.
