Cleo Gulvas, 98, of Au Gres

Cleo Saline Gulvas, age 98 years, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, with her family by her side.

Cleo was born on February 20, 1925, in Au Gres, Michigan, to the late Willard and Irene (Chase) Badour. She was a lifelong resident of Arenac County, she resided in Au Gres, she married the love of her life, Leonard, on December 2, 1944, and together they raised two daughters.

Cleo was a nurse at Omer Hospital from 1941 to 1945, she then became a lifelong farmer alongside her husband. She was a member of the St. Mark Altar Society, the Au Gres Garden Club, and the Lioness Club. She was a Sterling Rest Home Volunteer and an Arenac County 4-H leader.

Cleo enjoyed fishing, gardening, bingo, needlework, reading, bowling, and hosting holiday gatherings and reunions for her family.

Cleo’s favorite holiday was Christmas, and she thoroughly enjoyed decorating her home, inside and out, for this Holiday.

Cleo is survived by her daughters, Angela (Guy) Knoll and Beverly (Isetts) Gulvas; sister, Jurell (Robert) Ziembo; brothers, Robert (Leanna) Badour and Willard Badour; grandchildren, Brian (Kaylene) Knoll, Janeen Trousdale, and Julie (Pete) Dean, Rick Thomas, Laura Sidwell, Leroy Isetts III and Amy Isetts; great-grandchildren, Mikayla Trousdale, Isaac Card, and Natalie Card; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Gulvas, and 5 sisters, Evelynn (Walter) Schlagel, Dorothy (Elmer) Trombley, Carol (Joe) Trombley, Wilma (Gene) Bukowski, and Maxine (Wilber) Crouterfield.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, March, 9, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 415 S. Court Street, Au Gres, Michigan. Officiating will be Father Gerald Balwinski with interment to follow at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
