Elaine Isabelle Smith, age 93, of Omer, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home on February 20, 2023, with her family by her side. Elaine was born on September 15, 1929, to the late John Craig and Isabelle St. George in Port Austin, Michigan. She grew up in the Port Austin area before eventually becoming a resident of Warren, Michigan for several years. In February of 1947, she married the love of her life, Harold M. Smith in Port Austin. The two raised six kids and spent 48 amazing years together until Harold’s passing in 1995. Elaine worked as a home maker for her family as she looked after the house and kids for many years. Some of her favorite hobbies consisted of gardening, reading, cooking, and spending quality time with her loving family.
Elaine is survived by her six children, David Smith, Jerry (Tina) Smith, Linda (Lester) Schwiderson, Allen (Tracy) Smith, Kenneth (Tamara) Smith, and Kerry (Timothy) McBain; brother, James (Elsie) Craig; 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Smith; brothers, John (Jack) Craig, Harvey Craig, Kenneth Craig, Allen Craig, Gary Craig, and Gene Craig; and sisters, Frances Lenaway and Dorothy Gembarski.
There will be a funeral for Elaine at Buresh Funeral Homes in Au Gres, Michigan, on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 11:00 AM. The family will welcome the public for a time of visitation from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Elaine will be laid to rest next to her husband on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Port Austin Township Cemetery in Port Austin, Michigan.
