Larry Daly, 77, of Omer

Lawrence (Larry) Frank Daly, age 77 of Omer, MI., passed away at his home on January 26, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 2, 1946 in Flint, MI., to the late James Daly (Ruby) and Betty (Peek) Decker (Willard).

Larry married the love of his life, Linda (Schlagel) Daly on November 11, 1964 and they had over 58 wonderful years together. Larry was a longtime resident of Omer where he coached little league (which he loved), women’s and men’s softball. He hunted, bowled, and was an avid fisherman, especially sucker dipping in the spring where he was known as the “king of the river.” He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved his pontoon boat and taking family and friends for rides. Larry served on the Arenac Eastern School Board and the Omer City Council. He was a sports fanatic, especially U of M, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Lions. Larry worked for the Arenac Road Commission for over 33 years until retirement in 2006.

Larry is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Debra Kahihikolo of Middletown, MD., Laura Daly of Omer, MI., Denise (Jerry) Daly of Bay City, MI.; sister, Linda (Brian) Leja; brother-in-law David Schlagel; sister-in-laws Veronica Hiveley, Marilyn Williamson, Lorna Schlagel, Brenda Daly; stepsisters, Chris Ketter, Carol Nordbye, Nessie Barkman; grandchildren, Courtney (Kyle) Kahihikolo, Jordyn (Brad) Cook, Katie Daly, Trina Kahihikolo; many nieces and nephews, close childhood friend (like a brother) Richard Anderson, and many other close friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Daly, stepbrothers, Norm Nordbye, Ron Cannel; stepsisters, Kay Ray, Pat Cannel; brother-in-laws, William Hiveley, Fred Williamson; stepbrother-in-law Mike Ketter;

A service will be held on Friday February 3, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church 206 N. Court AuGres, MI. Visitation 11:00 – 1:00pm, funeral 1:00pm. Pastor Fred Cordts is officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to St. John Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society, or American Heart Association.
