Dorothy Jean Gassman, age 77, went to be with God forever on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at her home in Alger, MI surrounded by her loving family and passed peacefully. She was born on March 20, 1945 in Detroit, MI to Harold and Sophia (Wierzbicki) Garter.
Dorothy lived in Alger, MI for the past 52 years, formerly of Taylor, MI.
She had many jobs but her most cherished accomplishment was being a great mother and grandmother as her face would surely light up whenever a child would come into the room. For birthdays and Christmas, she most often played with every toy before she wrapped it to make sure she knew the best way to make it special for the kids. Dorothy also enjoyed spending time in Trout Lake, MI at her cabin in the U.P.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Jim) Arini; sons, Ron (Rachel) Gassman, David (Angela) Gassman, and Rick Gassman; extended family, Jeff Caudle and Stefanie Kernstock; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matt) Caudle, Jennifer (Mike) Caudle, Kristine Caudle, Katie Wend, Alyson (Scott) Gassman, Adriana Gassman, Bret Schunk, Devin Schunk, Desirae Schunk, Justine Gassman, Stephanie (Rich) Montalvo, Stephen (Kalyn) Gassman, Samantha Rau, Donavon Gassman, and Xaver Kernstock; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Gerald Garter; and sister in law, Kathryn Warner.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Henry “Hank”.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
