Arthur Burmeister, 81, of Sterling

Arthur (Art) Edwin Burmeister, age 81, of Sterling Michigan died at home May 16, 2022 of leukemia.

Art was born October 20, 1940 in Marquette, MI to the late Leonard and Leona (Cooper) Burmeister. He grew up in Flint, MI where he attended Kearsley High School and Mott Community College before serving as an illustrator in the US Army. He was united in marriage to Patricia Eddy on August 27, 1966 in Grand Blanc, MI and they were married more than 55 years. He owned Burmeister Engineering in Sterling, a shop that specialized in building custom machines for manufacturing.

Art had a lifelong involvement with 4-H starting in childhood, through adulthood as a leader, and in later years serving on the 4-H Foundation board. He was an avid sports car racer in the 1960s and raced rally cars in the 1990s and 2000s throughout the eastern United States. Art also fostered a local music community in the Rifle River Folk Strings that continues to play together today.

In addition to 4-H and the RRFS, Art had also been a member of the Sports Car Club of America, Rally America, the Standish Car Club, the Rifle River Muzzleloaders, and served as a leader in Cub Scouts. He was an ardent supporter of the Northeast Michigan Arts Council. He enjoyed traveling with Pat and spending time with his granddaughters.

Art Burmeister is survived by his wife Patricia (Eddy) Burmeister of Sterling, daughter Lisa Wylde of Canberra, Australia, son Eric Burmeister of Hamilton, MI, granddaughters Zoë and Tahlia Ramshaw, and brother Thomas (Melodie) Burmeister of Livonia, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shirley Burmeister.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Lee Ramsay Funeral Home-STANDISH CHAPEL, Standish, Michigan. Interment will follow in Sterling Cemetery, Sterling, Michigan.

The family will greet family and friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, May 23, 2022 at Lee Ramsay Funeral Home-STANDISH CHAPEL and from 12 Noon until time of service on Tuesday. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Arthur, please visit our floral store.
