Louis Gene Boggs, 91, of Houghton Lake

Louis Gene Boggs, aged 91, recently of Houghton Lake (previously of Shelby Township) passed away on May 7, 2021.

Louis was the son of the late Eugene and Beulah Boggs of Ypsilanti and Greenup, KY.  He was married to the love of his life, Mary, for almost 70 years before she passed away over 2 years ago and missed her every day until the end. He is also predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Ted and Pat Boggs.

He was the loving father, grandfather and great grandfather to; his children, Louis E. Boggs (Jenny) and Luann Boggs, grandchildren, Lyndsy McMorrow (Robert), Louis B. Boggs (Amanda) and Parker Cohen, great-grandchildren, Louis, Case, Avery, Harper, and Madison.

Louis was an active outdoorsman and passed the love of nature on to his children and grandchildren.  He love hunting and fishing with the men in the family and telling tall-tales about it to anyone who would listen. Louis was a true renaissance man who loved to take his family traveling throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico via the family camper as well as going to art museums and theatre performances. He enjoyed great conversations with everyone and never met a stranger. Prior to losing Mary he was often the center of every conversation in the room with a great sense of humor to entertain all levels of audience.

Louis was formerly an Elementary Principal, teacher, and advisor to the Utica Community Schools and countless students who were lucky enough to cross his path.  He truly delighted in working with children, teachers, and parents.  He loved his job but was fortunate to retire at the age of 55 and spend the next three-plus decades dividing his time between his homes in Michigan and Florida and visiting his children and grandchildren in Houghton Lake and Plano, Texas.

He was an amazing patriarch and will be missed by his family, their friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Louis and Mary will be interred together at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. In lieu of sending flowers, plant a tree or take a walk in the woods in memory of Louis. Arrangements will be handled by Christler Funeral Home, Houghton lake Chapel.
