Albert E. Simon

Albert E. Simon, 96, of Higgins Lake, passed away June 28 at his home.

Mr. Simon was born in Lansing May 20, 1922 to Lewis and Mary (Viland) Simon. He married Elizabeth Jean (Nagy) Wald July 5, 1951 in Lansing. They resided in Lansing before moving to Higgins Lake in 1961.

Mr. Simon was a Corporal in the US Army during WW II.

Mr. Simon and his brother, Mike, owned and operated Simon’ Texaco Service Station in Lansing for many years. After moving to Higgins Lake he bought the Loom Room Gift Shop at Higgins Lake which he operated for several years. He then worked for Eckerly Tool as a tool and die maker and at Roscommon Manufacturing which became Lear Corporation. He retired in 1987.

He enjoyed building model airplanes and belonged to the Roscommon Aero Modelers Radio Controlled Flying Club. He also enjoyed ice fishing, snowmobiling, and was an avid coin collector. He loved riding motorcycles.

Surviving are three children, Albert L. (Mary) Simon of Higgins Lake, Jean Keen of Oshkosh, WI, and Mark Wald of Higgins Lake and Oshkosh, WI; granddaughter, Monica (Chad) Lytle of Higgins Lake; two great grandchildren, Austin and Jolee Lytle; nephew, Eric Simons of Houghton Lake; and very good caregiver and friend, Elizabeth Drexler of Higgins Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth Jean; and several siblings.

Private services will take place. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery, Markey Township.

Memorial donations may be made to Roscommon County Animal Shelter, 1110 Short Drive, Prudenville, MI 48651.

Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon is serving the family.
