Guenther W. Volkenborn of Roscommon

Guenther W. Volkenborn, 93, of Roscommon passed away March 1, 2018 at Grayling.

Mr. Volkenborn was born in Miheim, Germany Aug. 5, 1924 to Herman William and Lidia (Nearhaus) Volkenborn.

He married Frieda L. Forster June 5, 1945. He resided in Roscommon since 1999; he also lived in Detroit.

Mr. Volkenborn was employed for 42 years at United Airlines, retiring in 1984.

He was in the U.S. Army from Feb. 10, 1943 to Feb. 28, 1946.

Surviving are his son, David (Brynda) Volkenborn of Roscommon; daughter-in-law, Jacki Volkenborn and family; granddaughter, Rachel Ducat; grandson, Eric Volkenborn; and sister, Ruth Engstrom and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frieda L. Volkenborn; and his son, Jonathan.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Beacon Assembly of God, Roscommon, with Pastor Jason Shory officiating.

Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery, Markey Township.

Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Walsh Funeral Home.

Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon, is serving the family.
