Carlton R. Mead, Jr. of Roscommon

Carlton R. Mead, Jr., 84, of Roscommon died Feb. 14, 2018 at Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital.

Carlton was born in Roscommon March 11, 1933 to Carlton R. Mead, Sr. and Katherine Gertrude (Palmer) Mead. He was a lifetime Roscommon resident.

Carlton married Joanne Marie (Failing) Nov. 26, 1952 in Roscommon.

Carlton was a loader/operator for the Roscommon County Road Commission for over 40 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Carlton was a past member of the Roscommon Village Council. He had served on the council for 18 years. He also had be a past member of the Higgins Twp. Fire Dept. He was a life member of the Charles M. Engel VFW Post # 4159, Roscommon. Carlton enjoyed being outside, in the woods, occasionally gambled and loved bonfires.

Carlton served in the US Army during the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Joanne; three children, Becky (Lyle) Barnes, Cathy (Willie) Rivas and Rusty (Laura) Mead all of Roscommon; six grandchildren: Bridget (Jim) Vermeesch of Ithaca, Stacy (Rick McGregor) Hornyak of CA. Darren (Jaime) Barnes of Roscommon, Ben (Ali) Barnes of Alma, Kacey Mead of Roscommon and Jamie (Mike Max) Mead of Roscommon; 10 great-grandchildren, Garret and Samantha Vermeesch, Alex, Anna and Rylan Hornyak, Owen, Annie, Reed and Aiden Barnes and Isla Schaeffer; two brothers, Larry (Ann) Mead and Lauren (Rita) Mead, both of Roscommon; brother-in-law, Cliff Wood of Roscommon; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Connie Wood; and sister-in-law, Sue Mead.

Funeral services were held Feb. 17, 2018 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Roscommon, with Rev. Father Richard Schaeffer officiating. Burial will be at Roscommon Village Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Charles M. Engel VFW Post # 4159, P.O. Box 774, Roscommon, MI 48653.

Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon is serving the family.
