Mary Ann Walsh of Au Gres

Mary Ann Walsh, 88, of Las Vegas, formerly of Au Gres and Sebewaing, died unexpectedly at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas on January 2, 2018.

Mary Ann was born to Morgan W. and Corinne I. (Trudeau) Vaughan on May 1, 1929 in St. Paul, MN where she also married Frederick J. Walsh on June 9, 1951. Following Fred’ retirement in 1984 they moved to Au Gres after living in Sebewaing for many years.

While in Au Gres she was very active at St. Mark Catholic Church having served as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, catechism teacher, and was a member of the Altar Society. She was also a great comfort to the sick and shut in members of the church she would visit on a regular basis as a befriender.

In 2016 she decided she did not want to see another Michigan winter. She sold her Pt. Lookout home and moved to Las Vegas to be warmer and nearer to her daughter, Kathy. The move was good for her health and well-being. She made many new friends in her apartment complex and became a member of Church of the Holy Spirit.

Mary Ann had a love of playing cards and enjoyed being part of weekly bridge and rummy groups and also played canasta, pinochle and euchre. Many of her grandchildren were taught various card games before their hands were big enough to hold the cards they were dealt and special card holders were bought for them as family gatherings would always include many hours of card playing.

Surviving are five children, Fred (Michele) of Roscommon, Bill (Kim) of Lake Wylie, SC, Tom (Donna) of Sebewaing, Kathy of Las Vegas and Maureen (Gordon) Sell of Aurora, CO; seven grandchildren, Lauren (Noel) Hawkins, John, Amanda (fianc+¬, Dan Stomber), Terry, Connor and Parker Walsh, and Ryan Sell; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Evan Hawkins; sister, Marg Laird of Yucaipa, CA and sister-in-law, Marge Palmieri of Bellingham, WA.

Preceding her in death are her husband of 54 years, Frederick on September 27, 2005; an infant son, Patrick; and her brother, M. John ‘Jack’ Vaughan.

Visitation will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Au Gres on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Fr. Gerald Balwinski. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Au Gres.

Those wishing to make a donation in her memory may do so to St. Labre Indian School, E. Tongue River Road, Ashland, Montana 59003.

Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon is serving the family.
