James Robert Powell of Houghton Lake Heights

James Robert Powell, 84, of Houghton Lake Heights passed away Nov. 1, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Jim was born on April 5, 1933 in Lansing, Michigan to Arvin and Agnes (Price) Powell.

He grew up in Lansing where he graduated from Lansing Eastern High School. Jim served as a A/2C in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a Test Driver for General Motors for many years. He moved from Lansing to Houghton Lake in 1981.

Jim was married on October 15, 1966 in Houghton Lake to Phyllis J. Emery.

He was a Gold Member of the Houghton Lake Eagles and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving Mr. Powell are his two daughters, Carla Foltyn of DeWitt, and Robin Powell of Lansing; two sons, Steve (Yvonne) DeJaegher of St. Johns, and David DeJaegher of Lansing; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Carol (Bob) Haeck of Charlotte; brother in law, Bob Freeman of Wolverine; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, including Rick Powell and Rhonda Chapman who where always providing Jim with help.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis J. Powell; brother and sister in law, Richard J.(Joanne) Powell, Sr.; brother, Bobby Powell; sister, Arlene Hadley; and sister, Thelma Freeman.

Graveside Services for James Robert Powell will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday November 10, 2017 from Roscommon Township Cemetery, Houghton Lake.

Memorial contributions in memory of James are asked to be directed to Intellicare Hospice, 441 S. Main Street, Standish, Michigan.
