Janet Z. Manley of Houghton Lake

Janet Z. Manley, 84, of Houghton Lake passed away October 3, 2017 at home with her loving son by her side.

She was born on July 4, 1933 in Grosse Pointe to Frank and Marie (Voncken) Zeegers. She graduated from Centerline High School in 1951. While attending Michigan State University she met Richard E. Manley and the couple married in East Lansing on December 3, 1955.

Mrs. Manley was employed by the Oldsmobile Company as a secretary until the couple moved to Houghton Lake in 1963. She was very involved in the community, serving on the Houghton Lake Community Schools Board of Education for 23 years, the Mid-Michigan Library League Board for 42 years, and the Houghton Lake Public Library Board.

She also was involved in Houghton Lake High School plays, musicals and band concerts and the Junior Miss Pageant for more than 30 years. She was a member of the American Business Women Association, two book clubs, antique groups and was an avid antique collector.

Surviving are her son, David R. Manley of Houghton Lake; and many close friends, including Yoshiko Miyakoshi of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard E. Manley; and brother, Gordon Zeegers.

A memorial gathering will be conducted at a later date.

Memorial contributions in memory of Janet are asked to be directed to the Houghton Lake High School Drama Program.
