Cornelius ‘Neil’ F. Sullivan of Roscommon

Cornelius ‘Neil’ F. Sullivan, age 87, died, Thursday, October 12, 2017 in Roscommon.

Neil was born August 28, 1930 in Hope, Idaho to Leo Cecil and Lavina Mae (West) Sullivan.

Neil is a US Navy veteran, having served from 1948 to 1952, achieving rank of BM2 (T). He married Reda Mae Leftwitch on May 5, 1956 in East Detroit. Reda died on March 4, 1998.

Neil worked as a model maker at Lear-Siegler in Detroit 24 years. He then moved to the GM Tech Center in Warren and continued as a model maker for another 12 years, retiring in 1986. Neil and Reda moved from East Detroit to Higgins Lake in 1992.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Roscommon, the Grayling Moose and a life-member of AM Vets Post 13 at Higgins Lake.

He enjoyed gardening, and hunting pheasants and grouse.

Neil is survived by three children, Larry (Mary Ann) Mitton of New Holland, PA, David (Deborah) Sullivan of Eastpointe and Debra (Timothy) Clark of Richmond; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (Joan) Sullivan of West Branch and two sisters, Dolly (Ray) Winkler of Oscoda and Jean Christian of TN.

He was predeceased by his parents; wife; son, Robert Mitton; daughter-in-law, Jane Mitton; brothers, Pat and Jerry Sullivan and sister, Johanna Mae Bowman.

The family will receive friends at Walsh Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 16 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.

A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday Oct. 17 at St. Michael Catholic Church celebrated by Rev. Father Richard Schaeffer. Burial was at Gerrish Twp. Cemetery with full military honors provided by Charles M Engel, VFW Post 4159 and American Legion Post 96 both of Roscommon.

Arrangements provided by Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon.
