Mona May Moore of Prudenville

Mona May Moore, 82, of Prudenville, passed away September 24, 2017 at home with her loving family by her side.

She was born on July 5, 1935 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Walford and Katherine (Taubman) Christensen and graduated from Albuquerque Community Schools, University of New Mexico and later attended Central Michigan University where she received her master’s degree in counseling.

On June 10, 1960 in Albuquerque, she was married to Jerre Roger Moore. The couple moved to the Houghton Lake area in 1966 where the family owned and operated the Hub Supermarket.

Mrs. Moore was employed as a teacher by Albuquerque Community Schools and for many years, and was a preschool teacher and later counselor at Houghton Lake Community Schools.

She was a member of Rainbow Girls, Order of Eastern Star, Girl Scout Leader and an active member of the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church, being a member of the choir, and assisting with Vacation Bible School and children’s groups. She enjoyed card making, playing bridge, traveling with Jerre, and attending all of the grandchildren’s events.

Surviving are her loving husband of 57 years, Jerre Roger Moore of Prudenville; two daughters, Diane (Masami) Kakihara of San Diego, CA, and Christen (Bill) Zook of Bloomington, IL; daughter-in-law, Brenda Moore Flick; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, and Robert Moore, Mikayla and Kenneth Kakihara, and Travis, Camdyn, and Kyler Zook; sister, Edna Manetsch of WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Eric Moore.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. September 30 at Houghton Lake United Methodist Church with Rev. George Spencer officiating.

Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mona are asked to be directed to the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church Preschool Scholarship Fund.

Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
