Thomas Ernest Keipert

Thomas Ernest Keipert, 83, of Roscommon passed away July 30, 2017 at Grayling Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.
He was born in Bay City June 10, 1934 to Ernest James and Christina A. (Potter) Keipert, and married Joannne F Johnson there On Jan. 11, 1957. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. The couple moved to Roscommon in 1962.
Mr. Keipert owned and operated Pioneer Appraisal, retiring in 1995. He was Higgins Twp. Supervisor and Assessor from 1972 to 1985. He was a member of the Four Mile Limited Partnership, past president of the Michigan Township Assn. in 1985, served 27 years on the Roscommon County Planning Commission, retiring in 2000, Roscommon County representative for the Regional Planning Commission from 1973 to 1985 and chairman from 1984 to 1985 and was appointed by Governor John Engler to the State Appraiser Board from 1990 to 1997.
He enjoyed golf and skeet shooting. He was a former world skeet shooting champion in 2003. He was a 16 time Michigan skeet shooting champion. He shot more than 100,000 competitive rounds
He was a founder of the Roscommon-Higgins Lake Chamber of Commerce and served as the President / Manager from 1965 to 1970. He was a member of Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159 in Roscommon.
Surviving are his wife, Joanne; three children, Leslie (Dean) Fall of West Branch, Ernest ‘Skeeter’ Keipert and Doug Keipert both of Roscommon, six grandchildren, Kristina (Mark) Athey, Beth (Chris) Williams, Deanna and Andy Fall, Kaleb and Seth Keipert; and four great-grandchildren, Kallie, Macey, Maggie and Emma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Keipert; and sisters, Joan Jonas and Valaska Campbell
A Celebration of Life will be held at Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159, Roscommon at noon, Saturday, August 12, with members of Charles M. Engel VFW Post 4159 officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 301 Grant St., Pittsburgh PA 15219.
Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon is serving the family.
