Richard ‘Dick’ John Grant of Roscommon

Richard ‘Dick’ John Grant, 83, of Roscommon passed away June 17, 2017 at home.

He was born July 28, 1933 in Detroit to James Patrick and Cecilia Evelyn (Landry) Grant, where he grew up. On June 7, 1958, he married Margaret ‘Maggie’ Ann Blanchard in Highland Park.

Mr. Grant was employed as a sheet metal worker and estimator, draftsman and detailer by EW Ensroth, in Warren, Quality Craft in Detroit and Partlan-Labadie in Oak Park, retiring in 1996. He resided in Roscommon since 1997, coming from Clawson.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Roscommon, K of C Council 6593 in Roscommon and a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 80, Detroit. He was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Grayling. He enjoyed cooking, eating, a good Manhattan, bird watching, nature, gardening, fishing, road trips and sailing. He loved his home on the Au Sable River. He served as a trustee for the Village of Roscommon from 1998-2000.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and remained connected to many of his childhood buddies his entire life. He was incredibly handy and mechanical and could fix most anything. He embraced hard work and giving everything he tackled his all. He loved the sea and seeing the world while serving in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956.

Surviving are two children, Dennis (Terry) Grant of Naperville, IL and Anne Grant of Roscommon; three grandchildren, Carly (George) Cizek of Plainfield, IL, Megan Grant of Milwaukee, WI and Ryan (Jenn) Ranspach of Lansing. Dick became a proud great-grandfather in April when Grant Ranspach and Everly Cizek were born three days apart.

He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Grant of Fenton; two sisters, Mary (Patrick) Mattingly of Roscommon and Catherine (Lou) Grieshaber of Novi and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Amy Grant; siblings, Cecile Papandrea, James, and infant brother, George.

Funeral services will be held later at St. Michael Catholic Church, Roscommon.

Burial will be at Roscommon Village Cemetery.

Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon is serving the family.
