John C. Lillie of Houghton Lake

John C. Lillie, 74, of Houghton Lake passed away May 31, 2017 in his home with his loving family at his side.

He was born on September 11, 1942 in Detroit to John and Betty (Horle) Lillie. He grew up in the Detroit and Grand Rapids areas and graduated from Central Michigan University with a Master’s Degree in Education.

While attending Central, John met Joan C. Evans and they were married on February 2, 1963 in Grand Rapids.

Mr. Lillie was employed as a teacher at Horizons Alternative Education in the Wyoming Public School System for many years. He was honored as Teacher of the Year in the early 2000s. He loved all types of sports, especially baseball, and his beloved Tigers.

Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Joan C. Lillie of Houghton Lake; three sons, Ryan (Lori) Lillie of Midland, Glen (Laurie) Lillie of Grand Rapids, and Darin (Jackie) Lillie of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren, Morgan, Nathan, Emma, Rhayna, Emerson, and Ian. John was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family memorial services for John C. Lillie will be conducted. Memorial contributions in memory of John are asked to be directed to the Detroit Tigers Foundation, Comerica Park, 2100 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48201 or www.tigers.com.
