James Dean DeLong of Houghton Lake

James Dean DeLong, 60, of Houghton Lake, passed away June 10, 2017 at home.

He was born on May 1, 1957 in West Branch to James and Lila (Chilcote) DeLong. He grew up in the Houghton Lake area and spent most of his life there. He and his son Michael owned DeLong and Son Masonry for several years in the Houghton Lake area. Later he was employed by Lear Corporation in Roscommon.

Mr. DeLong loved cooking for family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, especially on the families Honey-Do-Ranch. His special love was spending time with family especially his children.

Surviving are his daughter, Lila S. DeLong of Roscommon; son, Austin J. DeLong of Roscommon; mother, Lila E. DeLong of Houghton Lake; three sisters, Sandra (Jim) Marshall of Houghton Lake, Debra Morley of Houghton Lake, and Carla DeLong of Houghton Lake; brother, Jerry DeLong of TX; mother of his two children, Rhonda Barnhart Cross of Roscommon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Virgil DeLong; son, Michael Gibson, and sister in law, Cindi DeLong.

A Memorial Gathering was conducted at Houghton Lake VFW Post 4034.

Memorial contributions in memory of James are asked to be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
